Although this are two separate artworks, there will always be an invisible connection between the two painting. The combination of man and telephone alone is a big field of thoughts. Actually the mobile phone in the present time is a whole Universe and it could lead you almost everywhere, while we using a one it could evokes emotions and feelings of any kind. Sometimes we all feel obsessed with the new technologies and constant phone calls. At some point this, all the time and everywhere connected, way of life is coming really too much. The man figure in Agoraphobia is deliberately put in such a dramatic pose. It is to underline his obsession and unwillingness to communicate. The definition of agoraphobia is an intense fear about being in public places where you feel escape might be difficult. In fact his fear is to pick up the phone and go into this global system. That is why he is hiding his face and trying to keep his mobile device away from him. Claustrophobia is the other side of the same problem. As a meaning it is the fear of having no escape and being closed in small spaces or rooms. The female figure is in folded pose, completely concentrated in what happening on the screen of her mobile. The small room is actually her surrounding environment, it is boring and there is nothing interesting there. Her fear is the "real life" and the probability of not being connected. Just imagine you losing your signal and internet for a week, .. sounds like a verdict. A few details in the two paintings will show that the connection between them is not so invisible. On the screen of the mobile in Claustrophobia is a small version of the whole composition of Agoraphobia. This is a call, she is calling him, she needs that communication. On the screen in his hand could be seen her image, but he doesn't want to talk. The message sent by the artworks is not about pure relationships and love, it is more about how this is influenced by the XXI century's technologies... http://www.stefannenov.com/apps/photos/photo?photoID=113205132 113205132 Claustrophobia - 900 oil on canvas; 76 x 61 cm Agoraphobia and Claustrophobia are a surrealistic vision of the relationship between man and woman, between nowadays people. There is nothing certain there and nothing is what it looks like. The main inspiration is the painting Bacchus by Italian Baroque master Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio. Internet is a place where the archaically old could meet with the present new. The interaction between those two things could be in harmony , but also a clash of two different concepts. www.bacchus represents the invasion of the funny icons, which symbolizing the tricky web space, into one of the finest pieces of art. This is an indication of the aggressive world we live in, with all the viruses, adverts and propaganda we are surrounded. The missing head of the original Bacchus is taken and appearing from the bottom of the picture, turned into a funny yellow face. The other emoticons are drunk and trying to get in and be part of the Caravaggio's masterpiece. http://www.stefannenov.com/apps/photos/photo?photoID=35957250 35957250 www.thecarrying oil on canvas; 102 x 82 cm http://www.stefannenov.com/apps/photos/photo?photoID=113205136 113205136 www.kiss oil on canvas; 102 x 82 cm http://www.stefannenov.com/apps/photos/photo?photoID=113205235 113205235 www.love oil on canvas; 102 x 82 cm http://www.stefannenov.com/apps/photos/photo?photoID=35957249 35957249 www.stigma2 oil on canvas; 122 x 91 cm http://www.stefannenov.com/apps/photos/photo?photoID=23159821 23159821 www.stigma1 oil on canvas; 122 x 78 cm http://www.stefannenov.com/apps/photos/photo?photoID=113205234 113205234 www.goodmorning oil on canvas; 30 x 24 cm http://www.stefannenov.com/apps/photos/photo?photoID=52819298 52819298 begining of the music oil on canvas; 3 - 40 x 40 cm sold http://www.stefannenov.com/apps/photos/photo?photoID=22637022 22637022 the price of music oil on canvas; 82 x 60 cm sold http://www.stefannenov.com/apps/photos/photo?photoID=22637023 22637023 duck feather pencil drawing; 100 x 70 cm http://www.stefannenov.com/apps/photos/photo?photoID=22637024 22637024 Kesaya oil on canvas; 65 x 54 cm sold http://www.stefannenov.com/apps/photos/photo?photoID=59893269 59893269 velasquez & escher oil on canvas; 54 x 46 cm http://www.stefannenov.com/apps/photos/photo?photoID=24061117 24061117 retardatio pencil drawing; 2 - 100 x 70 cm http://www.stefannenov.com/apps/photos/photo?photoID=22637029 22637029 retardatio, detail. pencil drawing http://www.stefannenov.com/apps/photos/photo?photoID=22637030 22637030
